Solar Crash
A pinball-like, top-down shooter where your goal is to beat the sun
My roles for this game: Producer, Designer, Programmer
In Solar Crash, your goal is to get a score as high as possible. With a unique launch and magnetize mechanic, fight through waves of enemies and build up your score to progress through different warp points. Can you manage to survive and eventually defeat the Sun?
Solar Crash is a semester-long project for a class at USC where I worked with one other person. Similar to other abstract games like Tetris and pinball, the goal for this game was to get players into a flow-state. Everything was designed to give the player a feeling of mastery over the controls and to keep the ball in motion, including the player mechanics, the enemies, and the environmental obstacles.
My Contributions
Developed with a partner developer to create a 20-minute experience over the course of a semester
Designed and programmed four AI enemies, five environmental mechanics, and overall system progression
Used Google Sheets to create burndown charts to track task completion of sprints throughout the semester
Wrote documentation of key design problems and decisions for internal use and for USC faculty
Facilitated development using concentric design, adjusting scope and deadlines in reflection of our team of two’s capabilities
